Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH and Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, on Thursday, announced in Buldhana that Ayurveda Gurukulam colleges will be started in the country by the Ministry of AYUSH to promote Ayurveda education, research and quality testing of drugs. He further announced that drug testing laboratory (DTL) facilities will be developed in eight peripheral institutes of the Central Council for Ayurvedic Sciences Research. He was speaking at a programme organised at the District Women’s Hospital in Buldhana under the ‘25 Years of Sustainable Development-Service Resolution Campaign’ organised on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday.

 

MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, Mayor Pooja Gaikwad, District Collector Dr Praveen Kumar Deore, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Gulab Kharat, Dean of Rajmata Jijau Government Medical College Dr Kailash Jhin, District Surgeon Dr Dattatray Birajdar, District Health Officer Ranjit Mandale, Superintendent of District Women’s Hospital Dr Prashant Patil, etc. were present on the occasion. Jadhav further said that the Central and State governments were focusing on providing integrated healthcare services by coordinating Ayurveda, yoga and traditional healing methods with modern medical treatments to keep the citizens healthy and fit. “Treatment becomes more effective if various diseases are diagnosed on time. Therefore, he said that special importance is being given to preventive healthcare,” he said. Jadhav said, “Ayurveda and Yoga are gaining global recognition and many countries are demanding information and training on these treatment methods. If Ayurveda, Yoga and modern medical treatments are integrated, citizens can get more comprehensive health facilities.” He said that Ayushman Health Temples and various services of the AYUSH Department have been implemented across the country for this purpose.

 

“Efforts are underway to create Ayurveda education and research facilities in various parts of the country on the lines of the All India Ayurveda Institute in Delhi. More efficient health facilities are being provided to the citizens of the district through the Rajmata Jijau Government Medical College in Buldhana. In the future, the State’s health system will be provided with a large number of trained manpower through the students studying in government medical colleges,” the Minister said. “Under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, eligible beneficiaries are being provided with treatment facilities of up to Rs 5 lakh per year. Health protection has also been provided to senior citizens above 70 years of age. The Government is striving to ensure that the cost of expensive treatment does not fall on poor families, that no one has to hide their illness due to lack of treatment, and that every citizen can live a healthy and dignified life,” Jadhav said. MLA Sanjay Gaikwad gave information about the medical and educational facilities available in Buldhana. Rajmata Jijau Government Medical College is providing medical education to 100 students every year. He mentioned that follow-up is underway in line with the Ayurveda College to ensure that citizens get the combined benefits of Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Yoga and Naturopathy.

 

 

Ayurveda Gurukulam is a residential Ayurveda institute where a seven-and-a-half-year BAMS degree course will be implemented along with a two-year pre-Ayurveda programme. The medium of instruction will be Sanskrit. Admission will be given through NEET after Class 10 itself. All Gurukulams will be affiliated to Central Sanskrit University, Janakpuri, New Delhi. Pre-Ayurveda curriculum will include Sanskrit, English/Indian language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Indian Philosophy and Introduction to Ayurveda. Proposals have been received from 5 states for setting up Ayurveda Gurukulams from the academic year 2026-27, namely Maharashtra, Assam, Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, the Drug Testing Laboratories will be developed in eight peripheral institutes of Central Council of Ayurvedic Sciences Research under the Ministry of AYUSH at Pune, Patiala, Jammu, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Cheruthuruthy and Bengaluru. This network is expected to provide a boost to decentralized drug testing facilities, rapid testing, research and quality assurance and will create a national DTL network for quality testing of ASU drugs across the country.
