MAHESH Chintamwar of Workshop Department rallied to enter men’s singlesquarterfinals of the DRM Challenge Cup Inter-Departmental Badminton Tournament that got underway at twin venues on Tuesday. The three-day meet is being organised by the South East Central Railway Sports Association (SECRSA). Inthemen’stournamentbeing held at Badminton Court, Motibagh, Chintamwar rallied from being agame down to beat KaranKumarofRPFDepartment 15-17, 15-10, 15-13in threeclose games.Inanothermatch,Nikhil Warkhade of TRD beat V SudhakarofEngineering15-5,15- 13 in straight games. In men’sdoubles, DK Chourasia and SK Srivastava beat Vaibhav Tiwariand Nitin 15-9, 13-15,15-10 while Mitesh Dahate and Bikash Chowdhury beat Vaidam Venkatesh and Ajay Kumar 15-09, 10-15, 15-8.

 

In women’s singles,being played at the Rail Club Badminton Court, Mount Road, VrushaliGorleofPersonnelDept beat Rebeka Kumbhe of Elect Op 15-05,15-04;Madhurima Paharai (Elect) beat Harsha Sheshkar (Engg) 15-08, 15-08; Tanushree Chouhan (Personnel) beat Nilima Kujur (Engg) 15-06, 15- 08.The tournament was formally inaugurated by chief guest Rajesh Chikale, ADRM, SECR, Nagpur. Nehal Narayane,Sports Officer, SECRSA, welcomed him by presenting abouquet. Chikale congratulated all the participating players and extended his best wishes. He emphasised the importance of sports in promoting physical fitness, discipline, team spirit and a healthy competitive environment among railway employees.
