TRIBAL Affairs Minister Vijay Shah and Colonel Sophia Qureshi matter has once again gained attention. A delegation led by Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, Umang Singhar visited Lok Bhawan and submitted a memorandum to Governor Mangubhai Patel on Tuesday. The delegation demanded reconsideration of the proposal regarding the prosecution of Minister Vijay Shah, following his objectionable remarks about Colonel Sofia Qureshi, and urging the Governor to issue directives for appropriate action against the Minister. MLAs Arif Masood and Suresh Raje were also present alongside the Leader of the Opposition Singhar on this occasion. After meeting the Governor, Umang Singhar said that the insult to Colonel Sofia Qureshi is not merely an insult to an individual, but an affront to the Army, women, and the country itself. He alleged that the Government is dragging the Governor into the matter to avoid facing disrepute.

He questioned why the Governor is being involved when the fault lies with the Government? Singhar asked why the Chief Minister and the BJP Government did not exercise their authority to grant sanction for prosecution against Vijay Shah and remove him from his ministerial post? Singhar stated that Governor Mangubhai Patel assured the delegation that he would reconsider the issue and discuss it with the Government. He added that the Congress party is hopeful the Governor will take an appropriate decision in this matter. Noteworthy to mention that the case relates to remarks made by State Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah at a public programme in Mhow area in May 2025. Recently, Shah got a relief after the State Government decision and Governors decision. Notably, the Madhya Pradesh Government had informed the Supreme Court that the Special Investigation Team investigating the case had completed its probe and that the proposal concerning prosecution sanction was awaiting a decision at the Governor’s level. And Governor approved Cabinet’s proposal to deny prosecution sanction for Kunwar Vijay Shah.
