Mahindra and Mahindra puts skilling and job creation at the heart of its facility in Nagpur

With skilling and job creation as the key focus of its upcoming largest integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing facility in Nagpur, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. is building the people capabilities required for the project as it moves towards acquiring possession of the first package of approximately 800 acres at Additional Butibori in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

After the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) recently allotted the land parcel to the company, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd is acquiring the land. Further, the company is also looking forward to acquire the remaining 700 acres of land in coming days. Announced earlier this year, the greenfield facility will be developed across 1,500 acres in Vidarbha and will be complemented by a 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar. Once fully operational, the facility will have an annual production capacity of over 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors, making it Mahindra’s largest integrated manufacturing facility in the country. The supplier park at Sambhajinagar will supply components to the new Nagpur facility as well as Mahindra’s existing facilities at Chakan and Nashik.

Alongside development of the facility, Mahindra is building the people capabilities and skills required for the project. This will include process for identifying, developing and skilling talent for manufacturing automobiles and tractors across multiple powertrains and future technologies. Mahindra will look to draw on the experience and expertise of associates who have been part of its existing manufacturing operations. Over the next two to three years, these skilled and experienced associates will have an opportunity to participate in a detailed selection process for roles at the new facility.

The selection process will consider technical capability, demonstrated behaviours, alignment with Mahindra’s values and ability to collaborate effectively. Mahindra also plans to set up a skilling centre in Nagpur to build capabilities across areas such as mechanical operations, welding, painting etc. Founded in 1945, the Mahindra Group is one of the largest and most admired multinational federation of companies with 3,24,000 employees in over 100 countries. It has a strong presence in renewable energy, agriculture, logistics, hospitality and real estate. The Mahindra Group has a clear focus on leading ESG globally, enabling rural prosperity and enhancing urban living, with a goal to drive positive change in the lives of communities and stakeholders to enable them to rise.
