Computer Engineering has emerged as the most preferred branch among students seeking admission to undergraduate engineering courses in Maharashtra, with 28,170 admissions recorded for the academic year 2026-27. According to data released by the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell, a total of 1,81,927 students secured admission to engineering courses across 387 colleges offering 111 branches in the State. The figure is 15,181 higher than the 1,66,746 admissions recorded in 2025-26. Of the total admissions this year, 1,14,121 are male students and 67,806 are female students.

 

Mechanical Engineering was the second most preferred branch with 19,702 admissions, followed by Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering with 18,895, Computer Science and Engineering with 18,277, Information Technology with 15,219, Civil Engineering with 14,213 and Electrical Engineering with 11,726 admissions. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science recorded 10,502 admissions, while Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) accounted for 6,650 admissions. The other branches among the top 15 included Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (4,606), Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (4,115), Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science) (3,512), Electronics and Computer Engineering (3,257), Electronics and Computer Science (1,649) and Chemical Engineering (1,634). Pune University tops university-wise admissions Among the engineering colleges affiliated to the State's 17 public universities covered by the CET Cell, Savitribai Phule Pune University recorded the highest number of admissions at 64,822.

 

It was followed by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere, with 34,385 admissions, and the University of Mumbai with 32,126. RTM Nagpur University stood fourth with 17,084 admissions, followed by Shivaji University, Kolhapur, with 9,921, and Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University with 9,571. Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University recorded 3,274 admissions, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University 2,993, Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University 2,351 and COEP Technological University 1,387 admissions.

 

Pune district leads; Nagpur second Pune also topped the district-wise admission figures with 49,616 students taking admission to engineering colleges in the district. Nagpur stood second with 18,921 admissions, indicating the city's continued importance as a major engineering education hub in Vidarbha. Nashik ranked third with 12,469 admissions, followed by Mumbai Suburban (11,421) and Thane (11,236). Kolhapur recorded 10,828 admissions, while Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Solapur and Raigad recorded 6,705, 6,451, 5,962 and 5,325 admissions, respectively. The engineering admission process for the academic year 2026-27 concluded on September 14.
