Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Sunday dedicated another electric bus for the service of senior citizens in the city. Presented as a special Ganeshotsav gift to the Jyeshtha Nagarik Pratishthan, the bus will be used to facilitate pilgrimages for the elderly. The handover ceremony took place at the Gadkari’s resident in Mahal.

 

The event was attended by MLA Rajeev Potdar, Ashok Leyland Managing Director Shenu Agarwal, Vice President (Corporate Affairs) Yashpal Sachar, Bhandara Plant Head Rajendra Chandrashekhar T, Umeshwar Rao, Raunak Srivastava, Pritesh Chandak, Jyeshtha Nagarik Pratishthan Secretary Dr Raju Mishra, Treasurer Ashok Mankar, Trustees Prabhakar Yewale, Sunil Agarwal, Avinash Ghushe, and Sonali Ghodmare, among others. Addressing the gathering, Gadkari said, “This service has been arranged to bring joy to the lives of senior citizens.” Gadkari further added that while pilgrimage trips are currently organised to Adasa, Dhapewada, Ramtek, and Koradi, the foundation is also planning to extend services to Shirdi with the addition of this new bus. Gadkari also expressed his gratitude to the Hinduja Group for its ongoing support of social initiatives. The e-bus was donated as part of Ashok Leyland’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. With this latest addition, the Jyeshtha Nagarik Pratishthan now operates a fleet of five e-buses. It is important to note that over the past seven years, nearly 4,00,000 senior citizens have availed the facility of free trips through the foundation’s bus service.
