The process of establishing and implementing the Maharashtra State Council for Allied and Healthcare Professions has been accelerated following directions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, with the State Government aiming to strengthen education, training and regulation of allied healthcare professionals. The council’s establishment notification was issued on October 10, 2024, and the rules required for its functioning have been prepared. The updated national-level curriculum is now being introduced across Maharashtra from the 2026-27 academic year, giving students access to education and training aligned with national standards.

 

The move is also relevant to Nagpur, which has an established medical education and healthcare ecosystem. Four autonomous boards will be established under the council -- the Undergraduate Allied and Healthcare Education Board, Postgraduate Allied and Healthcare Education Board, Allied and Healthcare Professions Assessment and Rating Board, and Allied and Healthcare Professions Ethics and Registration Board. Together, these boards will oversee education, assessment, rating, professional ethics and registration.

 

The approval process for Central guidelines governing registration of allied healthcare professionals has been completed, with a notification issued on August 31, 2026. This has enabled the State to proceed with the next stage of registration and implementation. Training in more than 50 disciplines is also being taken up across Maharashtra, covering professionals such as physiotherapists, radiographers, laboratory technicians, optometrists and dieticians, among others. The Government said the initiative would establish quality professional standards, stronger ethical practices and appropriate assessment mechanisms, while creating a transparent, capable and accountable system. Better coordination among the concerned agencies is also expected. The move is therefore aimed at bringing greater consistency to allied healthcare education and professional practice, while creating a stronger foundation for the State’s healthcare system and patient services.
