THE City of Lakes reverberated with devotion and drumbeats as the traditional Dhol Gyaras Chal Samaroh was celebrated with immense religious fervour. Marking the auspicious Parivartini Ekadashi, the grand procession brought the old city to a standstill. Idols of Lord Krishna, adorned in vibrant finery, were placed on exquisitely decorated palanquins and taken out in a ceremonial procession from major temples including Shri Laxminarayan and Khatlapura Mandir. Thousands of devotees lined the route from Itwara to Budhwara, dancing to the thunderous rhythm of dhols and chanting hymns.

 

The air was thick with gulal, flower petals and chants of ‘Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki’ as akharas and local bands showcased traditional folk performances with enthusiasm. According to the Panchang, the Ekadashi Tithi is being observed today, making the Chal Samaroh even more significant this year. Elaborate security and traffic arrangements were made by the district administration to ensure the smooth passage of the procession, which concluded late in the evening after Jal Vihar rituals at the city lakes. The festival once again showcased Bhopal’s rich syncretic culture, where faith, tradition and celebration unite.
