With a view to streamline the admission process for Engineering and Pharmacy courses, State Government has formed a committee to formulate policy on preparing meritlist by combining MH-CET and HSC marks. While score of CET is in percentile, that of HSC is in per centage. So the panel is tasked with formulating a policy to devise a formula to integrate the academic score during the college and performance of candidate in the entrance exam.

 

The experts panel must suggest a formula as to how much leverage is to be given to HSC per centage and to the CET score. The committee consists of Vice-Chancellor, Mumbai University, and President, Maharashtra State Education and Research Council (MahaSARC), and he is named as President. The members would be Vice-Chancellor, Dr Babasaheb Technical University, Lonere; Vice Chancellor, College of Engineering Technical University, Pune; Director, Directorate of Higher Education; while Director, Directorate of Technical Education, will function as Member Secretary. The panel is given 15-day time period to submit their report consisting of suggestion on how to go about giving importance to both aspects. The aim of Department of Higher and Technical Education is to ensure that proper balance between Engineering and Pharmacy courses, preparing merit list, ensuring that students can understand the dynamics. The new formula must also be transparent and easy to decipher. The State also wanted the experts to provide a timeline by which the new system of admission can be introduced. This the administration feels can ensure that students get ample time.
