THE Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed former Union Minister Smriti Irani as its new State In-charge for Chhattisgarh. Sidharth Shambhu has been appointed Joint In-charge. The appointments were announced by BJP National President Nitin Nabin. The BJP has also announced new in-charges and joint incharges for several other States and Union Territories as part of the reorganisation of the party’s national team under Nabin, who took charge as national president a few months ago.

 

Irani, who has also been appointed In-charge of Haryana, was made a National General Secretary in the BJP’s new national team announced in August. Shambhu was appointed National Secretary in the same team. The post of Chhattisgarh BJP incharge had remained vacant after Nabin took over as national president. Irani’s appointment now fills the key organisational post. A BJP spokesperson said Irani’s appointment would provide fresh momentum to the party’s organisational activities in Chhattisgarh and further strengthen the organisation in the State.
