RAIN returned to Jabalpur on Thursday afternoon as a deep depression over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha moved inland. The system is now influencing weather conditions over eastern Madhya Pradesh. The weather department has forecast more rain over the region in the coming days. In Jabalpur, the afternoon rain on Thursday brought relief from the recent humid conditions. The sky remained cloudy and temperatures dropped after the showers. Intermittent rain is likely to continue. Spokesman of Weather Department said moderate to heavy rain is likely to lash the city on September 25 and 26.

 

Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible. The cyclonic system is expected to move further towards Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Its movement may keep moisture over the region and support rain activity for the next few days. The fresh spell could also add to Jabalpur’s rainfall total before the monsoon officially ends on September 30. The city has received 791.2 mm of rain so far this year, compared with 1,161 mm during the same period last year. Thus Sanskardhani has received 369.8 mm less rain or about 31.9 per cent lesser rainfall, than last year. The latest spell may further increase the rainfall tally. Heavy showers could also cause temporary waterlogging in lowlying areas.
