Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research (DMIHER), Deemed to be University has received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to adopt the name Adani Institute of Higher Education and Research, marking a new phase for the institution. The change follows the collaboration between DMIHER and the Adani Foundation, announced in June 2025, to develop the institution as a global Centre of Excellence (CoE) in affordable healthcare education and delivery. The partnership is aimed at strengthening healthcare education, research and access to quality healthcare for rural and underserved communities, for Wardha as well as for Vidarbha. “This is a defining moment for our institution. As we transition to the Adani Institute of Higher Education and Research we are building on a strong foundation while creating greater opportunities for excellence, innovation and global engagement,” said Dr Lalitbhushan Waghmare, Vice-Chancellor. He added that the values and purpose that have shaped this institution over more than three decades will firmly remain at its core.

 

The new identity is expected to open wider avenues for research, innovation and global engagement while building on DMIHER’s existing academic and healthcare ecosystem. The institution’s focus on quality education, compassionate healthcare and community service will continue, with greater emphasis on new technologies and research opportunities. Importantly, the transition will not disrupt the university’s functioning. Its academic programmes, faculty, campuses and administration will continue without interruption. The new name is intended to reflect the institution’s next phase while retaining its academic, clinical and community foundations built over more than three decades. According to Dr Waghmare, Adani Foundation will give investment of Rs 100 crore annually for adding new equipment for both the Wardha and Nagpur campuses. The institution received deemed-to-be-university status from the UGC in 2005 and has since developed its education, research, clinical care and community health activities across Wardha and Nagpur. Its initiatives include Aarogya Waari, Maha Aarogya Camps and Aarogya Amrut Mahotsav. As it moves into the new phase, the institution will continue to carry forward former Member of Parliament Datta Meghe’s contribution to education and healthcare while seeking to expand research, innovation and access to healthcare
