Dr Rohit Kumar Gupta, who played crucial roles in India’s Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan Missions as a scientist has assumed the charge as Director in Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC), recently. Dr Gupta is a distinguished metallurgist with over 26 years of experience in materials development, processing, characterisation and failure analysis in the aerospace and strategic sectors. Prior to joining JNARDDC, he served as General Manager, Materials Development and Production at Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), Indian Space Research Organisation

 

(ISRO), Thiruvananthapuram and also held various positions at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), ISRO. Dr Gupta has made significant contributions to the indigenous development of advanced materials for major ISRO programmes, including PSLV, GSLV, LVM3, Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan, Aditya-L1 and Gaganyaan. Dr Gupta has also received several national and institutional recognitions, including the Metallurgist of the Year Award (Non-Ferrous), Ministry of Steel, 2019. At JNARDDC, Dr Gupta will lead the Centre’s R&D activities in aluminium and its alloys, critical minerals, metal recycling, materials research, testing and certification, further strengthening JNARDDC’s contribution to India’s non-ferrous metals and mineral sector.
