HOSTS St John’s High School (State), Mohan Nagar,were crowned champions of the 33rd Father Peter Mermier Foot ball Tournament after ahard-fought final against arch-rivals SFS School, on Monday. With this win, St John’s also avenged theirUnder-17Subroto Mukherjee finaldefeat from SFS, held in August. StJohn’sHigh School had won the DSO-organised Schools’ Under-17 title defeating SFS Collegeon September 22 to qualify for Divisions. They doubled their joy with another crownon Monday morning. In a fiercely contested summit clash,StJohn’spippedSFSSchool by asolitarygoal which came from the boot of Sahil Samudre in the 20th minute. In the second half, therewas someheated argumentbetween Sahil Samudre(St John’s)and Aaron Pinto (SFS) which forced the referee to giveboth the players marching orders. In the last minute of play, St John’s midflielder Ashmit Pramanik ranwith the ball from the centreline and managed to dribble past acouple of defenders but his shot on the goalpost could not beat SFS goalkeeper.
