THE Adivasi Bahujan Adhikar Kalyan Sangh (ABAKS) announced to hold a large-scale demonstration titled ‘Aarakshan Bachao, Samvidhan Bachao, Desh Bachao’ on September 30, in Jabalpur. Addressing a press conference called on Monday, Regional President Sangh, Devesh Kumar Choudhary informed that the demonstration is being organised to address concerns over growing intolerance, mob lynching and negative narratives directed at Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities. The demonstration will commence at Civic Centre Marhatal and conclude at Ghantaghar Police Control Room at 4:00 pm on September 30, 2026. Following the march, representatives will submit a formal memorandum addressed to the President and the Prime Minister of India through the Jabalpur district administration.

 

ABAKS emphasised that these issues, along with debate surrounding reservation policies, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and educational regulation bills, have created an unsafe environment for ST/SC students in higher education institutions. The Sangh firmly opposed proposals to reclassify reservations based on economic status, asserting that reservation is a constitutionally mandated right designed for social representation rather than a poverty alleviation initiative. The Sangh’s four-point demands list to the Central and State Government included inclusion of reservation provisions within the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution to protect them from judicial review, enhancing enforcement and legal provisions under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, immediate restoration of the 13% reserved OBC quota currently placed on hold in MP and implementation of UGC Equity Bill 2026 to ensure institutional accountability and counter caste-based discrimination on academic campuses
