Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has temporarily stayed the ongoing recruitment drive for contractual teachers across civic-run schools following the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct for the Nagpur Division Graduates Constituency elections. The civic education department had recently released an official notification (Advt No 402 PR) inviting applications between September 24 and September 28 for walk-in interviews across Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, and English mediums. Conducted through School Management Committees (SMCs), the recruitment drive aimed to appoint 168 contractual teachers for kindergarten (Balwadi), primary, upper primary, secondary, and higher secondary sections for 2026-27 academic session.

 

However the process has been bought to an abrupt halt. The recruitment drive for 168 contractual teachers included 31 posts for kindergarten (Balwadi), 44 posts for primary, 65 posts for upper primary (Classes 6 to 8), and 28 posts for the secondary section. Educational qualifications for these respective posts were stipulated as Montessori, D.Ed, graduation, and B.Ed. Education Officer Amit Bhadane instructed institutions to freeze all hiring activities immediately and avoid conducting interviews during the code period. Headmasters were also instructed to notify registered applicants, noting that a revised timetable will be issued after the election cycle concludes.

 

Santosh Devi Laddha, Chairperson of Education Committee, NMC stated, “The recruitment process has been temporarily deferred in compliance with the Model Code of Conduct. However, our municipal schools are currently facing an acute shortage of teachers. While we must respect the statutory norms, the civic administration must expedite this recruitment drive on priority the moment the code is lifted to safeguard our students future.” “In response of the announcement, municipal schools received thousands of applications, for which interviews will be conducted after October 27 this year,” added Laddha.
