SENIOR Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Monday questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against the Election Commission (EC) and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Addressing a press conference at party’s divisional office, Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh said Congress should not create confusion among people about constitutional institutions. The Mayor said the Election Commission, at its September 26 meeting, clarified that decisions related to SIR were approved unanimously by all three Election Commissioners. The Commission also said the SIR order of June 24, 2025 was unanimously approved and was later upheld by the Supreme Court. Singh questioned the basis of allegations made by Rahul Gandhi on the issue. He also referred to Form-6 declaration used during SIR. The Election Commission has said the declaration attached to Form-6 was upheld by the Supreme Court. The Mayor further referred to a letter sent to the Cabinet Secretary.

 

He said the Election Commission had clarified that the letter was related to functioning of an officer on deputation and was not connected with any policy decision or the SIR process. On ECINET, he said the Election Commission has ordered a review of the system. A committee headed by a senior Deputy Election Commissioner and including an independent expert from an IIT or IIIT will examine its compliance with laws and rules. He cited earlier Congress and Rahul Gandhi statements on EVMs, armed forces and judiciary and said the party should introspect. BJP District President Ratnesh Sonkar said elections should be fought on public service, work and policies rather than by questioning constitutional institutions. MLA Ashok Rohani, State Media CoIn-charge Shrikant Sahu and others were also present.
