AN INVESTOR interaction and stakeholder consultation meeting was conducted at Madhya Pradesh Bhawan in New Delhi for the proposed 200-MW floating solar power plant and 50 MW/100 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at cooling reservoir of Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station (SGTPS) in Birsinghpur, Umaria district. The meeting was organised by Madhya Pradesh Urban Development and Housing Department, with Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPPGCL) participating as the project’s technical expert and consultant. Representatives of more than 39 developer companies and leading energy and financial institutions, including Tata Power, Waaree Energies, NTPC Green, BHEL, NHPC and Serentica, attended the meeting. The ambitious project, estimated to cost around Rs 1,300 crore, is currently at the tendering stage under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. It envisages installation of a 200-MW grid-connected floating solar plant on the cooling reservoir of the thermal power station.

 

The project provides for a variation of up to 10 per cent in the solar plant’s capacity. A 50 MW/100 MWh battery energy storage system will also be developed. MPPGCL Managing Director Manjeet Singh briefed investors on the project concept, technical configuration, investment model and implementation framework. He highlighted its potential role in expanding green energy in Madhya Pradesh and integrating renewable power generation with energy storage to meet future requirements. MPPGCL Superintending Engineer Avnish Shukla made a detailed technical presentation. Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Housing Department, Sanjay Dubey, outlined investment opportunities in the renewable energy and energy storage sectors in the State. As the project will utilise an existing reservoir, no new land acquisition will be required, presenting an integrated model for clean energy generation and storage using existing water and power infrastructure. A question-andanswer and consultation session was also held with investors and stakeholders.
