Vidarbha Taxpayers Association (VTA) has urged the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) to act as a true regulator and ensure that policies and amendments concerning rooftop solar encourage renewable energy rather than discourage consumers who have invested substantially in it. The issue was highlighted by Saqib Parekh during VTA’s annual general meeting held at Hotel Tuli International recently. He said frequent changes in solar regulations were adversely affecting the viability of investments. VTA President Shrawan Kumar Malu urged the Maharashtra Government to adopt a sympathetic and taxpayer-friendly approach while framing policies affecting citizens, businesses and industries.

 

Immediate Past President J P Sharma highlighted concerns over cash-distribution schemes of various State Governments. Secretary Tejinder Singh Renu conducted the proceedings, while Treasurer Pawan Chopra proposed the vote of thanks. Hemant Trivedi and Ashwin Agrawal – Vice Presidents, Amarjeet Singh Chawla and CA Hemant Sarda – Joint Secretaries, Rajesh Kanoongo – Public Relation Officer, and others were present on the occasion. Pravin Agrawal, Govind Patel, Hamant Sharma, Narendrapal Singh (Vicky) Osan, Harmanjeet Singh Baweja, Sanjiv Puthran, members Umesh Patel, Sajid Parekh, Jethanand Khandwani, Bhagwan Khandwani, Ishmeet Singh Chawla and Yash Trivedi were also present.
