THREE students were injured after a portion of ceiling plaster suddenly fell inside a classroom at Government High School in Ganiyari village of Rasmada area during a quarterly examination on Tuesday. The incident caused panic among students and disrupted the examination for some time. Around 50 Class 10 students were appearing for their Sanskrit examination when the plaster fell from the classroom ceiling. Among the injured, Class 10 student Draupadi Thakur suffered a serious head injury and received three stitches. She was admitted to District Hospital, Durg, where her treatment is continuing. The other two students reportedly suffered minor injuries.

 

The school management immediately arranged medical assistance and sent the injured students to the district hospital. A Health Department team also reached the school and assessed the situation. The incident has raised questions about the condition and safety of the school building. Following the incident, the District Education Officer sent an inquiry team to inspect the building and determine the reason for the plaster falling. The team will also examine whether any earlier complaints regarding repairs or building safety had been received. A senior official of the Durg District Education Department, said the team would examine the condition of the building, the cause of the incident and any possible negligence related to maintenance and repairs.
