THE monsoon continues to maintain its grip over Madhya Pradesh, bringing widespread rain and cloudy skies across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the State is currently witnessing active monsoon conditions, with showers reported in the vicinity of Bhopal and surrounding districts. The Weather Department has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms in most parts of the State on Friday. The capital city, Bhopal, woke up to an overcast sky and intermittent showers. Similar conditions are prevailing in Indore, Jabalpur, Ujjain, and Gwalior. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for several districts in eastern and western Madhya Pradesh, warning of heavy rainfall at isolated places over the next 24 hours. Monsoon trough and a cyclonic circulation over central India are fuelling the current spell.

 

Officials expect the wet weather to continue for the next two to three days before any significant reduction in rainfall activity. Maximum temperatures are likely to remain below normal due to cloud cover and continuous rain. Bhopal and Indore are expected to record highs around 27-29 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures will hover around 22 degrees. The weather office has advised residents to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas prone to water-logging, and urged farmers to take necessary precautions to protect their crops. Commuters are also advised to plan their travel accordingly as traffic disruptions are likely in major cities. While the showers have brought muchneeded relief from humidity, the IMD has asked people to stay updated with official forecasts as the situation evolves.
