Emphasizing the vital role of structured training in urban administration, Shivani Dani-Vakhre, Chairperson of Standing Committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), expressed confidence that the All India Institute of Local Self-Government (AIILSG) will continue its 100-year legacy of shaping capable and public-oriented administrators. Speaking as the chief guest at the Local Self-Government Day event organised at Sai Sabhagruh in the city, Dani-Vakhre highlighted that providing training on local body operations to newly elected corporators would significantly boost their operational efficiency.

 

The event, held annually across the country to mark the birth anniversary of AIILSG’s first Director-General, late C D Barfiwala, aims to highlight the importance of local governance institutions. Regional Director Jayant Pathak delivered the introductory address, noting that AIILSG was established by prominent historic leaders including Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah, Vithalbhai Patel, Dadasaheb Mavlankar, and C D Barfiwala, to empower local body officials and employees through practical, employment-oriented courses. Sarikatai Nandurkar, Chairperson of the Women and Child Welfare Committee, congratulated top-performing students from the previous academic year, commending the career-oriented nature of the institute’s programmes during its centenary year.

 

The programme commenced with the institute anthem and lighting of the lamp, followed by floral tributes to the late C D Barfiwala. Outstanding students across various diploma programmes were honoured with trophies, certificates, and cash prizes. As part of the celebrations, a blood donation drive was also organised in the morning in collaboration with Dr Hedgewar Blood Bank, featuring active participation from students. Munge from the Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti inaugurated the camp as the chief guest and was felicitated by Prachi Natkar, a student. The event concluded with the National Anthem, attended by students, parents, faculty members, and others.
