There is no blanket ban on DJs in Nagpur. Sound systems that operate within the prescribed noise limits are allowed. CP Patil clarified this at a press conference. He said action will be taken against multi-layered DJ systems that produce excessive sound and vibrations. Police will also act against ‘Plasma’ and ‘Pressure Mid’ sound systems if they violate the prescribed limits. The order has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. It will remain in force for a maximum of 60 days. The order covers festivals and celebrations during this period. It also regulates multi-layered DJ systems, lasers and beam lights. Patil explained that a multi-layered DJ setup generally has three levels — Bass, Mid and Top. The Bass component produces strong vibrations.

 

Excessive vibrations can affect the human body, he said. The order does not ban traditional musical instruments or music. “I personally visit Tekdi Ganesh Temple in Nagpur. My day begins with Ganpati Stotra,” Patil said. He said the restrictions are aimed at controlling noise pollution. They are not against festivals, music or religious faith. A decision on extending the order will be taken after reviewing the situation before the 60-day period ends. Action against bands and wedding processions too The restrictions are not limited to DJs. Police will act against bands and wedding processions if they violate noise limits. Patil said loud and unruly celebrations are often seen during wedding processions and street band performances. People who follow the prescribed noise limits need not worry, he said.
