JUSTICE Krushna Ram Mohapatra of the Orissa High Court has been appointed the new Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court. The Central Government on Saturday notified his appointment after the President of India, in consultation with Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, approved his elevation. According to the notification, President Droupadi Murmu, in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, appointed Justice Mohapatra as Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court. Born on April 18, 1965, Justice Mohapatra holds BA and LLB degrees.

 

He is the son of late Justice Sarat Chandra Mohapatra. He enrolled as an advocate with the Orissa State Bar Council on February 7, 1988, and practised for 26 years in various branches of law, including civil, service, criminal and constitutional matters. His areas of practice also included cases under the Guardians and Wards Act, Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. Justice Mohapatra served as Additional Standing Counsel for the State as well as the Orissa Public Service Commission. He also represented Central Cooperative Banks Ltd, Keonjhar; the National Institute of Open Schooling under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India; Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd; Bank of Baroda and other institutions. He was elevated as a Judge of the Orissa High Court on April 17, 2015.
