Tightening noose around lawns and eateries at Kachipura, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Laxmi Nagar Zone started a special drive to recover pending property tax of Rs 8 crore. The Tax Inspectors from Revenue Department carried out warrant action against eight establishments, all prominent names on the Central Bazar Road. Already the civic body has taken steps to get these illegal occupants evicted but the owners secured a stay from the High Court against the said action. Meanwhile, NMC served notices at these establishments asking them to clear the outstanding dues. In case the owners continue with old play of default, the NMC officials warned to severing water supply at these places. To further increase the pressure, the notice also warned these establishments that the civic body reserves the right to cut off the drainage outflow from these places into the public pipeline.

 

Apart from these seven establishments, one more property owner, of an open plot in Somalwada, too has been issued a notice for recovery of pending property tax. NMC is on mission mode to recover outstanding dues and set target of realising Rs 1,000 crore by end of September. Those on target are big defaulters as the civic body officials are hopeful of making significant recovery. So far, NMC used to only issue notices and since last two years it has started sealing or notional seizure of the properties. This time however as the defaulters are refusing to see reason, the civic officials has decided to cut off drinking water supply plus the sewage connection, as persuasion, they feel, do not make much difference to intentions of the big property owners.

 

The notices were issued to Sai Vatika, Suresh Verma (owner), owing Rs 82,56,437 since 2017 onwards; Jagdish Saoji, Jagdish Kachi, outstanding dues are Rs 19,48,670 from 2007 onwards; Bharat Lawn, Mahesh Verma, Rs 44,0,3673 from 2009; Sanman Lawn +Santosh Bhojnalay+ Sanman Nursery, Deorao Bhongade, Rs 42,91,084 from 2012 onwards; Sujal Saoji, Jiyalal Shakya, Rs 12,13,502 from 2104; Better Home, Dheeraj Shakya, Rs 34,12,881 from 2008; Sardar Ki Rasoi-Babulal Shakya-Rs 1,71,95,021 from 2008 onwards and open plot no. 1924, Somalwada, Fatima Siddiqui-Rs 4,74,18,774 from 2001 onwards.
