RSS celebrates annual ‘Vijayadashami Utsav’ at Reshimbag ground on Dussera

The annual ‘Vijayadashami Utsav’ of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at Reshimbag ground on Tuesday, was marked by assertion of Dr Mohan Bhagwat, Sarsanghchalak of RSS, that Bharat was an ‘absolute necessity’ for the world. He elaborated the point, and also touched upon various issues ranging from lynching to economic slowdown and abrogation of Article 370 to orchestrated campaigns being run by ‘vested interests’ to malign the Hindu society.

“For the world, Bharat is an absolute necessity. Bharat has to stand on its own strong foundation of nature and culture. With this clear concept about the nation and its pride in mind, it is necessary to make the feelings of goodwill, good conduct and harmony strong in the entire society. In all these endeavours, Sangh Swayamsevaks have a significant role to play and will continue to do so,” said Dr Bhagwat, while addressing a gathering comprising religious leaders of different sects and religions, invited guests, and a disciplined crowd of Swayamsevaks. In his speech, the RSS chief referred to the results of Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year.

He said, Lok Sabha election results in 2014 were not merely an outcome of a negative political wave born out of disenchantment against the previous Government. In 2019, the people showed that they had made a careful choice. People of India expressed their firm opinion that democracy was ingrained in the national psyche as a result of centuries of tradition and enlightenment gained during post-Independence period. “The society by electing the new Government with an increased number of seats has endorsed its past performance and expressed a lot of expectations for the future,” he said. Dr Bhagwat appreciated the BJP-led Central Government for abrogation of Article 370. He extended ‘congratulations’ to Narendra Modi, Prime Minister, and Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, ruling party members, and other political parties for upholding the public sentiments in Parliament.

RSS’ Vijayadashami Utsav attracted attention of foreign media too.

At the same time, he observed that this effort would come to fruition ‘only when justice denied under the influence of Article 370 is restored, injustices occurred are brought to an end’. “It will happen when Kashmiri Pandits driven out unjustly are brought back, rehabilitated and allowed to remain secure, fearless, patriotic and Hindu.” Praising the Government for proving that it had the courage to fulfill expectations and respect people’s sentiments in the interest of the country, the RSS chief mentioned that the security alertness along land and maritime borders was better, terrorist violence had declined. However, he advised, it is time to increase number of guards and checkposts on land borders, and surveillance along maritime border, especially along Eastern borders. The RSS chief also praised the scientists over Chandrayaan-2 Mission.

“Although the mission did not attain full success as expected, achieving so much in the first attempt itself is a feat not accomplished so far by the entire world. Due to this daring mission of our scientists, the world’s admiration for our country’s intellectual genius and scientific prowess and commitment to realise the goals through hard work has increased,” he added. In his one-hour speech, Dr Mohan Bhagwat referred to ‘fear of a possible crisis from within’, and also the orchestrated campaigns being run by ‘vested interests’ who did not want India to be strong and vibrant. In such a situation, he said, “Alertness is a constant necessity”.

Speaking on ‘social violence’, Dr Bhagwat dealt with the topic of lynching. He said that the word ‘lynching’ was alien to India and it had evolved in other countries. As far as incidents in India are concerned, he said that such incidents had not been ‘one-sided’. Some incidents were ‘deliberately fabricated’ while some others were published in a ‘distorted manner’. “Neither this tendency is the tradition of our country nor does it fit in the spirit of the Constitution,” he observed. He appealed to the people to report such cases to police. He made it clear that RSS stood against every such incident and never supported the people involved in such incidents. He called for strict implementation of existing laws, and enacting of new law if necessary, to curb such incidents.

The elements planting or magnifying differences in Indian society to create poison towards law and order and the Government in the country, were making an ‘industry out of their pursuits’, Dr Bhagwat observed. He quoted Bhagini Nivedita and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar who had observed that civic discipline was an expression of patriotism in Independent India. Still, the ‘vested interests’ were using diversities of caste, creed, language and region to separate one from another, widening the existing fault-lines, imposing fabricated identities on manufactured separations, and resorting to misinterpretation and distortion. “Spreading hatred against Hindu society has grown to such an extent that even Imran Khan (Prime Minister of Pakistan) has learnt the art of blaming RSS,” Dr Bhagwat remarked, evoking a loud laughter from the gathering. RSS Swayamsevaks were working on creating goodwill and preserving social harmony, said the RSS Sarsanghchalak.

“Even then”, he said, “decisions on some matters are required to be taken by the courts. Whatever be the decision, it is the duty of responsible citizens that they should not hurt the mutual goodwill through words or deeds. It is not the responsibility of any one community; it is the responsibility of all.” The RSS chief also touched upon the global economic slowdown and called it a result of the ongoing global trade war between the US and China. He said that the people leading Indian economy were ‘competent enough’. Still, he stressed, ‘more alacrity and efficiency’ was needed and avoiding unnecessary stringency could set many matters right. He advised against forgetting ‘Swadeshi’ consciousness. Remembering Dattopant Thengadi and his thoughts on Swadeshi and economy, whose birth centenary starts from November 10, Dr Bhagwat said, “We need to go to the basics and ponder. We have to formulate our own economic vision keeping in mind our requirements, profile, condition of our people, our resources and potential to realise our national aspirations,” he explained.

To achieve sustainable development without compromising on environment protection, RSS has started ‘Paryavaran Gatividhi’, he informed the gathering. Dr Mohan Bhagwat also emphasised the need of shaping national education framework ‘in tune with Bharatiya vision’. “We need a relevant, logical, truthful, dutiful education system, based on an approach on the basis of love towards the whole universe and compassionate outlook towards all living beings, which gives comprehensive knowledge and pride about our language (Swa Bhasha), our attire (Swa Bhoosha), and our culture (Swa Sanskriti),” he observed. While India was rising on global stage, adequate care needed to be taken regarding cultural degradation, which was the root cause of several problems plaguing the society, Dr Mohan Bhagwat said. Among these problems, he listed atrocities against women, rise in drug addiction among youngsters, and rampant financial and character corruption.

He suggested a few solutions too. As far as safety of women was concerned, he stressed upon the need to make them enlightened, self-reliant, and capable of self- protection. At the same time, sanctity and decency of Indian culture needed to be instilled in men’s approach towards women. He termed drug addiction among youngsters as ‘frightening symptom’ of absence of good family atmosphere. “Transforming the situation through awakening and setting examples of ideal conduct in households is an inevitable responsibility for health and order of this country,” he underlined. Dr Bhagwat reiterated that for RSS the word ‘Hindu’ meant the people who belonged to India, were descendants of Indian ancestors, were working for the ultimate glory of the nation and joining hands in enhancing peace by mingling with each other and accepting, respecting and welcoming all diversities.

Towards the end of his speech, Dr Bhagwat appealed to the people not to depend solely upon the Government to address social problems but to take upon themselves the duty of aiding the rise of the nation. He also appealed to the media to shun commercial attitude of churning out spicy and sensational content, and contribute to creating a constructive atmosphere. Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra; Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for MSMEs; Gen (retd) V K Singh, Union Minister of State for MSMEs; Shantakka, Pramukh Sanchalika of Rashtra Sevika Samiti; Baba Kalyani of Bharat Forge Limited; Nanda Jichkar, Mayor; Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Guardian Minister of Nagpur district; and several dignitaries were present prominently on the occasion.

“Education is the most important tool of nation-building. Nation’s growth depends on its education system. Hence, it needs utmost attention,” said Shiv Nadar, Founder Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer of HCL Technologies, the Indian information technology major with presence in 44 countries across the world. Nadar was the chief guest at the annual ‘Vijayadashami Utsav’ of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at Reshimbag ground here on Tuesday. Dr Mohan Bhagwat, RSS Sarsanghchalak; Rajesh Loya, Mahanagar Sanghchalak; Ram Harkare, Vidarbha Prant Sanghchalak; and Shridhar Gadge, Mahanagar Sah-Sanghchalak were on the dais on this occasion.

In his speech, Nadar focussed on need for achieving 100 per cent literacy in India to aid the rise of the nation in the world. “India has 600 million people under 25 years of age. No other country has these many young people. However, 266 million people in India cannot read or write,” he pointed out. India’s demographic dividend has the potential to become a game-changer for the country with right education, training, and skill-sets, he stressed. He described lack of education as the root cause of several ‘severe problems’ in India like malnutrition and child deaths. “If our children do not have basics of literacy, building up our nation would only remain a well-meaning dream,” he said.

Nadar shared with the gathering how HCL Technologies started in one room grew to become a globally recognised Indian brand. Also, he informed the gathering how HCL Technologies was contributing to the cause of education through Shiksha initiative for school children, Shiksha Plus for adult literacy, and Samuday for empowerment of rural communities. The HCL Technologies’ founder described ‘Samuday’ project as the one creating a ‘source-code’ or a blue print that drove sustainable, integrated village development with strong participation from the community. “It is right time for Governments to implement Samuday model across the country,” he said. Also, he appealed to RSS to take up Samuday model and embark upon implementation together with HCL.

“I believe we need to be proud of what our country has achieved and is capable of achieving,” Nadar said. Addressing the RSS Swayamsevaks, he said that they had already taken the first step towards nation-building by joining an organisation that put the nation before the individual and instilled a deep sense of pride and ownership towards the country. “I would urge you to take these learnings and play your part in making sure our country continues to make its mark on the world stage,” he added. After sharing the success story of HCL Technologies and its social impact initiatives under implementation in Uttar Pradesh, Nadar said that the nation was only as strong as the people that inhabited it. “Hence, be Indian and be proud, and embark upon the journey of nation-building. For, our job of nation-building is never complete. We have to continuously work towards conquering newer challenges,” he said.
