HEALTHY INDIA

WHILE the Union Government has set a target of 2.5 pc of the GDP on healthcare, it is equally the responsibility of States to join in the mission of health for all by augmenting their own efforts. By sustained efforts India has achieved the distinction of nearly eliminating the scourge of polio from the land. Similar target has been set by the Centre for eliminating the incidence of TB. Since all such efforts have been undertaken in a mission mode with the involvement of the entire population of the country their success rate has been very high. Similar efforts are called for to achieve the target of health for all. Under Ayushman Bharat the Central Government has launched the laudable health insurance scheme which is already showing its effectiveness. It is now time for the States to raise their own contribution to the mission of health for all by way of raising their budgetary provisions for healthcare and creating medical infrastructure to meet the needs of the common man and prioritise health for all.
