FINALLY, the Committee of Administrators appointed by the Supreme Court to oversee affairs in the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has cracked its whip and debarred eight state units from attending the October 23 annual general meeting and elections. This action was on cards and needs further stringent legal follow-up to overthrow the adamant administrators in all those state units which have refused to implement the Justice Lodha Committee reforms. By ignoring the Supreme Court verdict on mandatory change of constitution, some state units including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Haryana are playing with fire. The CoA has done remarkably well to carry on with the spirit of the top court’s order, though quite late in the day. Yet, the committee needs to be complimented for taking a firm stand against the obstinate members, who are likely to move the SC against the disqualification. Such diffidence needs to be crushed once and for all by the apex court to provide relief to the adhering members and set BCCI in order.
