“Katol, Ramtek, Nagpur South West and Nagpur South have some factors connected to each other. Dr Ashish Deshmukh who had contested last election from Katol from Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is fielded by Congress from South-West against Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Fadnavis had defeated Ranjit Deshmukh, father of Dr Ashish from Nagpur West. This time Ashish is his opponent. Anil Deshmukh if wins from Katol, it will be his fifth term while Devendra Fadnavis will register consecutive fifth victory. According to political pundits, Katol is tough for NCP and BJP both. In Nagpur district if Anil Deshmukh wins, it will be NCP’s lone victory.”
KATOL
With the campaign for State Assembly election has entered into the last leg, Katol still maintained its uncertainty. Nobody is able to guess who would win. Whether Anil Deshmukh of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) would register fifth victory or people would prefer Charan Singh Thakur of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) who did some works in the constituency, is the question being asked. Katol was dominated by Congress or the related party mostly by Deshmukhs, Shindes, since 1962. In 2014 Modi wave helped Dr Ashish Deshmukh of BJP to snatch seat from NCP. The fight has become unpredictable and tough too. Katol is one of the 12 Vidhan Sabha constituencies in Nagpur district. It covers the entire Narkhed and Katol talukas and part of Nagpur (rural) taluka.
Anil Deshmukh has been winning the election from this constituency since 1995 and he won it for fourth consecutive terms. Many did not believe Dr Ashish Deshmukh would win. The win was not comfortable as he won by a margin of about 6,000 votes. Dr Ashish Deshmukh had secured 70,344 votes while Anil Deshmukh could muster 64,787 votes. Even though he had to bite the dust, Anil Deshmukh kept going to his constituency and raised several issues of the people there. His four times victory in the past and touch with the constituency can be advantageous for him. But he got tough opponent in the form of Charan Singh Thakur.
Thakur stays in Katol which is one positive aspect about him as compared to Anil Deshmukh who doesn’t stay there. Another aspect of Thakur is, he belongs to BJP which is a ruling party. People of Katol feel, Thakur will be in a better position to resolve their issues as he is aware of those, plus he would be a part of Government. Thakur developed Paradsinga’s Anasuya Mata temple, he conducted lot of works of beautification. The swimming pool was lacking and Thakur came forward to do that. There are several such works which Thakur added for the people of Katol. After Dr Deshmukh gone heywire, Thakur acted as MLA and did the work whatever he can. There are other candidates like Mohd Walibaba of Bahujan Samaj Party and Dinesh Tule of Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi who cannot be ignored. Both have their followers and are endeavoring to win the elections. Deshmukh and Thakur both cannot underestimate Walibaba and Dinesh Tule.
RAMTEK
Ramtek is likely to witness triangular fight as three stalwart candidates are in the fray. Mallikarjun Reddy of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), sitting MLA; Udaysingh alias Gajju Yadav from Congress while Ashish Jaiswal, ex-MLA of Shiv Sena contesting as an Independent will fight for win. Apart from these three candidates the others who are contesting include Bhagwan Bhonde from Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi (VBA), Sanjay Satyekar from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will try their best and can pose threat to other parties. Reddy did lot of works in Ramtek and he remained always a low profile. He did not lose touch of his people of the constituency. According to people of Ramtek, Reddy made himself available to them and followed up their matters with the Government. Udaysingh Yadav led several agitations like closure of toll naka or meeting Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamalnath regarding ending water scarcity of Ramtek. Reddy always believed in silent working and not acting in an aggressive manner. This has larger impact on the people of his constituency. Second advantage he has is that of Shiv Sena. Krupal Tumane, its MP from Ramtek has earned a clean image. Though BJP refused to give seat to Shiv Sena, Tumane and Shiv Sena volunteers will stand with Reddy making his victory sure. The personal comments made by Adv Ashish Jaiswal would make a great impact for which Reddy filed a complaint. Though Jaiswal too did lot of good works, people dislike his aggression. Secondly, he is likely to lose the party votes.
SOUTH WEST
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is known for his sincere and always-on-the-toe approach. Though the fight in South West is considered to be easy after Congress fielded Dr Ashish Deshmukh, Fadnavis has asked all the BJP workers not to take the contest for granted. Completing five year term as Chief Minister without the experience of any ministry in last three terms is the creditable thing for Devendra Fadnavis. Being Chief Minister he had to remain busy but he has taken all care of all developmental works. Fadnavis in last five years did so many works in his constituency. They include indoor sports stadium, beginning of development on London Street, green gyms, laying of sewer lines, construction of roads etc. Apart from this Fadnavis has emerged as party leader, and head of State. “I shall bring the refinery project on the lines of Nanar creating jobs for 3 lakh people. We can bring larger industries in MIDC, MIHAN, SEZ. I shall also try to increase the investment in textiles. Creating an ecosystem that would cater to the healthcare need of this region and promote health tourism too is my dream,” promised Dr Deshmukh. Prashant Pawar, an Independent, Vivek Hadke of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Amol Hadke of Aam Aadmi Party and Ravi Shende of Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi are too contesting election with an instinct to win. With good announcement for open category in response to Save Merit Save Nation, the organisation has decided to keep faith in Fadnavis. The party campaign for Fadnavis is being looked after by a strong team led by Sandip Joshi that include Rajiv Hadap, Mayor Nanda Jichkar, Anil Bhandari, Omprakash Yadav, Avinash Thakre and other corporators are toiling hard.
SOUTH
With good organisational network, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to register its second win despite of change in the candidate in South Nagpur State Assembly Constituency for the Maharashtra polls to be held on October 21 Mate is known name in the households of South Nagpur and he did not lose his touch from the constituency. The campaign by the Congress--Good vs bad would not hold true for Mate as he is known for his helping nature in the homes of this constituency. In last election too though BJP had chosen Kohale, Mate succeeded in let people feeling his presence. During the recent Lok Sabha election where people voted for Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Mate did hard work that resulted in Gadkari getting good percentage of votes. He took the work of BJP membership drive very seriously and South Nagpur again experienced his presence.
In last five years his office was equally flooded with people approaching him with the difficulties being faced by them and Mate used to resolve them. Mate has one more advantage of lack of unity in opposition. Neither Congress, nor Nationalist Congress Party members are unite to pose tough challenge before Mate. Raju Nagulwar, ex-Corporator of NCP has joined BJP and working with full swing for Mate. The only plus point for Pandav is his clean image. He is known as educationist and was trying hard to get the ticket. Pandav runs several institutions in South Nagpur and he would bank on his image. Shankar Thool of Bahujan Samaj Party and Ramesh Pise of Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi cannot be ignored.
