THOUGH not with its earlier shine, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- winning 29 of the total 62 seats in Vidarbha - maintained its dominance in the region in the State Legislative Assembly elections, results of which were announced on Thursday. Its alliance partner, with four crucial seats, also added to the alliance’s tally. Congress and NCP, though, did giveatough fight winning 22 seats together. However, they did not make much of a dent in Vidarbha to the Mahayuti’s march towards governance. Candidates of other parties andparty rebels fighting as independent salso made their presence felt at many places in region. The results came as a big jolt for ruling BJP in Nagpur district.
 
The party, which was contesting from all12seatsinthedistrict,couldwin only six, a loss of five seats compared to the results of 2014 polls. Clean sweep for BJP-SS in Akola It is a clean sweep for BJP-Shiv Sena alliance inAkoladistrictwith all five constituencies coming its way. BJP stalwarts Randhir Sawarkar won from Akola East, Gowardhan Sharma from Akola West, Harish Pimple won from Murtijapur while Prakash Bharsakle was leading in Akot Sena’s Nitin kumar Talewrested the Balapur seat. Pratap Adsad saved BJP from a whitewash with his win in Dhamangaon Railway. He defeated Congress’ three-time MLAVirendra Jagtap. However, Dr Anil Bonde, Guardian Minister of Amravati,and Dr Sunil Deshmukh faced defeat in Morshi and Amravati respectively. Congress’Adv Yashomati Thakur won from Teosa and Independent Ravi Rana secured hat-trick from Badnera. Congress won in Melghat and Daryapur along with Teosa and Amravati. Bacchu Kadu won in Achalpur, Rajkumar Patel in Melghat and Devendra Bhuyar emerged victorious in Morshi. Mungantiwar, Wadettiwar win Congress wrested three constituencies in Chandrapur district while BJP had to settle with. Independent Kishor Jorgewar won from Chandrapur. State Forest  Minister and BJP candidate Sudhir Mungantiwar had a comfortable wininBallarpurandCongress’Vijay Wadettiwar won in Brahmapuri.
 
Kirti kumar Bhangadiya of BJP retained his seat in Chimur. Pratibha Dhanorkar of Congress won in Warora. BJP’s Nana Shamkule and Shetkari Sanghatana’s Wamanrao Chatap faced major upsets from Chandrapur and Rajura respectively. BJP wins two seats in Gadchiroli distt In Gadchiroli, BJP succeeded in retaining Gadchiroli and Armori but lost the prestigious Aheri seat to NCP. In Gadchiroli, sitting MLA Dr Deorao Holi won with a huge margin defeating his nearest rival Dr Chanda Kodwate of the Congress party while another sitting BJP MLA, Krishna Gajbhe also retained his Armori seat easily, defeating Congress’ Anand Gedam. BJP, however, suffered a setback in Aheri as former Minister of State for Tribal Development and sitting MLA Ambrishrao Atram lost to NCP leader and former minister Dharmarao Baba Atram.

In Arvi, BJP’s Dadarao Keche polled 87,318 votes as against his nearest rival Congress’ Amar Kale who polled 74851 votes. In Deoli-Pulgaon, Congress’ Ranjeet dada Kamble polled75,345 votes while his nearest rival and BJP-rebel Bakane polled 39,541 votes. The official BJP-Shiv Sena candidate Sameer Deshmukh polled 30,978 votes. Sanjay Kute secures fourth term Of the seven Assembly constituencies in Buldana district,the BJP emerged victorious 3,Shiv Sena in 2 while Congress and NCP one seat each.
 
The election saw some bignames losing like BJP MLA and Pradesh General Secretary Chainsukh Sancheti, Congress’ Harshawardhan Sapkal, Rahul Bondre, Shiv Sena’s Dr Shashikant Khedekar. District’s Guardian Minister Dr Sanjay Kute won for the fourth time while Dr Sanjay Raimuklkar of Shiv Sena, contesting fromM ehkar,scored a hat trick. In Buldana, Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Gaikwad won the elections while Shweta Mahalle won from Chikhli, NCP’s Dr Rajendra Shingale and Congress’ Rajesh Ekade won from Sindkhedraja and Malkapur respectively. BJP-2, Cong-1 in Washim BJP’s sitting MLA Rajendra Patni won byamargin of 22,724 votes from Karanja constituency in Was him district.
 
He defeated NCP’s Prakash Dahake who p was leading after the 17th round with a comfortable margin of 13,447 votes. In Risod, Congress’ sitting MLA Amit Zanak was ahead of his nearest rival Independent candidate Anant Deshmukh. The result got delayed due to technical snag in the EVM. Cong-NCP on top in Bhandara, Gondia BJP-Sena combine suffered a major setback as it lost six out of seven seats in Gondia and Bhandara districts. Sitting MLA Vijay Rahangdale was theonly savingg race from Tirorasegment.The Congress-NCP, on the other hand have alot to celebrate with two seats in each of the districts. Inafirst, Independents won from Gondia and Bhandara segments.

In Gondia, BJP rebel Vinod Agrawal scripted history by winning the prestigious seat as an Independent as he defeated BJP’s Gopaldas Agrawal by over 25,000 votes. Of the seven Assembly seats, BJP won 5 and Shiv Sena got 1 while NCP had top be satisfied with only Pusad seat. District’s Guardian Minister suffered an initial scare from Balasaheb Mangulkar of the Congress party.
 
The latter remained ahaed right till the 24th round but Yerawar picked up after that and finally emerged the winner with a thin margin of 2,663 votes. BJP’s sitting MLA Sanjeev reddy Bodkur war was leading in Wani against Congress’ Wamanrao Kasawar. Former State Education Minister Vasant Purke had to face defeat in Ralegaon at the hands of Tribal Development Minister, BJP candidate Ashok Uikey. Uikey polled 90,236 while Purke got 80,346 votes. In Umarkhed segment, BJP’s Namdeo Sasane won defeating Congress’ Vijay Khadse.
 
Shiv sena rebel Dr Vishwanath Winkare settled at the third spot. InArni,formerministerShivajirao Moghe of the Congress was defeated by BJP’s Dr Sandip Dhurve by 3,200 votes.Cousins were face to face in Pusad constituency and NCP’s Indraneel Manohar Naik emerged the winner, defeating BJP’s Neelay Madhukar Naik. Indraneel secured a victory margin of 9,701 votes. But it was Sanjay Rathod of Shiv Sena who made the biggest splash bywinningwiththehighestmargin in Vidarbha, and probably the second highest in the State.
