Adarsh Katiyar assumes charge as IG of Bhopal

A 1992 batch IPS Officer of MP Cadre, Adarsh Katiyar (presently ADG rank officer), who was posted as Bhopal’s first Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in the year 2009, has assumed charge as Inspector General of Police (IG) Bhopal on Thursday. Katiyar took charge from outgoing IG Yogesh Deshmukh, who has been transferred to administration in the same capacity after serving as IG Bhopal for 3 months. Katiyar is widely considered as a versatile officer due to his efficient working capacities.
 
After taking the charge from outgoing officer Deshmukh on Tuesday afternoon at newly-constructed Police Control Room, Katiyar interacted with mediapersons and highlighted his priorities and said that he would focus to curb crime graph and maintain law and order in the city. Every possible effort would be made to check crimes against women and strict vigil would be made in areas where coaching institute and schools and colleges are situated and for this a meeting would be held with senior police officials to make a work plan for its better implementation.
 
Answering to a question, he said that with the advancement in the technologies would be used in controlling crime and streamlining traffic. More stress would be given on CCTV surveillance and for this high resolution cameras would be installed which would replace outdated old CCTV cameras. Notably, Adarsh Katiyar’s name was unanimously considered as first choice by the State Government while introducing historic SSP System in Bhopal. Adarsh Katiyar was made the first Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Bhopal in 2009. In his 24-year service which started as ADC to MP Governor Mohd Shafeeq Qurashi in 1992, and later served in Chhattisgarh’s Naxal-dominated Bastar as SP. He also has been a part of UN Peace Mission in Kosovo for a few years on central deputation in Government of India.
