Urban Administration and Development Commissioner P Narahari reviewed the possible activities for waste management by the Municipal Corporation at various places in Bhopal city along with Municipal Commissioner Vijay Dutta on Tuesday. Narhari sought detailed information about the process at each site and expressed displeasure at the shortcomings of the management at some places and directed to improve the process for better management. He first saw the entire process of execution of wet waste at the bio-methanization plant at Bittan Market.
 
During this time, he sought detailed information about the process of making gas and electricity from the green waste coming out of the Bittan Market Haat and the food from the nearby hotels and also inspected the generator room, veloon room etc. Expressing dissatisfaction over the cleanliness in the plant and its surroundings, he instructed to improve the cleaning system and segregation of waste. He also inspected the door-to-door garbage collection proceedings in Arera Colony E-1 area and the system of transporting wet, dry waste separately in garbage vehicles.
 
He spoke to the local citizens about the arrangements and issued instructions to ensure that vehicles are arranged for garbage collection on fixed time, garbage vehicles are kept clean and the operators of the vehicles are present on duty in their uniform. He observed the monitoring process being carried out through GPS at the Command Centre in Smart City and sought information in this connection. He told to make comprehensive improvements in the monitoring process. He also sought information about all the phases of working of waste transfer stations located at Kokata and Yadgar-e Shahjahani Park and also inspected the maintained chart of garbage vehicles.
 
He instructed to mark the information about the vehicles that do not reach the field, and to make other corrections in the information chart. He also inspected the process of making gas from waste and MRF at Yadgar-e-Shahjahani Park. He sought detailed information about the different types of plastic segregation, separate storage and fatka machine, belling machines, and cardboard made from plastic and plastic used in industries, dustbins etc. at the Material Recovery Facilitation (MRF) set up for the management of plastic waste in Bhanpur from the Manager Imtiaz Ali.
 
He lauded the process of plastic waste management and said that other cities of the state must also adopt it. On this occasion it was told that the Bhopal model of plastic waste management is being adopted in nearly 5000 cities. The plastic from this is being used in the construction of roads resulting in less cost and enhanced quality besides providing employment to the rag pickers. He also observed the process of remediation and scientific closure of Bhanpur Purani khanti and sought detailed information regarding the leveling of Khanti land and the system of making organic manure from waste in scientific method.
 
It was told on this occasion that since several years, the city’s garbage was being dumped on the 37 acre land of Bhanpur Khanti. Nearly 12 lakh tonnes of waste was dumped here, which is being segregated to produce organic manure besides leveling the waste free land. By the year 2021, a green area will be developed here on 21 acre land. He was informed that the organic manure is being utilized by the Municipal Corporation, Forest Department, Army and a few nearby farmers. He told to inspire farmers to campaign extensively for use of organic manure. Among those present were Additional Municipal Commissioners Mayank Verma and Pavan Kumar Singh, Deputy Director Urban Administration and Development Nilesh Dubey, Deputy Commissioner Vinod Kumar Shukla and other officials.
