PSI Bonde, who fled Pachpaoli Police Station with Rs 50,000 bribe, surrenders before ACB

Probationary Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Shankar Bonde attached to Pachpaoli Police Station on Sunday surrendered before Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). He fled the police station on Friday after accepting bribe of Rs 50,000/- in cash from a shop owner before ACB could arrest him. Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl SP) Rajesh Duddhalwar informed ‘The Hitavada’ that Bonde surrendered before ACB in the evening hours. “He would be produced in the court on Monday,” said the Addl SP. Sources informed that PSI Bonde creating drama of innocence before the ACB officers. He told the investigators that he had gone blank and had no clue whatsoever as to what happened during that period.
 
An ACB official said that PSI Bonde joined the force as constable. He was promoted after he cleared departmental examination. “He having good connection with constabulary which reflected in his statements and the act,” said the officer. Bonde was investigating a case of property deal. The complainant in the ACB case had fixed a deal of purchasing a shop at Jaswant Inox Tuli Mall. However, the deal was delayed over some issues and a shop owner approached the Pachpaoli Police and lodged a complaint against the man. PSI Bonde, who was investigating the case, called the man at the Police Station and threatened him of registering a cheating case against him. He demanded bribe of Rs two to hush up the whole affair. The man had given Rs 90,000/- in cash to him two weeks ago.
 
PSI Bonde then started pressurising the man for remaining amount. PSI Bonde had called the man at police station on Monday and beaten him for remaining amount. Soon after, the man decided to teach a lesson to the police officer and approached the ACB. The man had also negotiated the deal with the PSI at Rs 50,000/-. He received a phone call from the PSI on Friday afternoon in which he asked the man to reach police station in the evening. After accepting the cash from the man, the PSI immediately fled from the police station on the motorcycle before the complainant could signal the ACB. After reaching the police station, the ACB got the information that the PSI escaped from the spot.
 
As many as five teams of ACB were searching for him in the city. An offence under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered against the PSI Bonde at Pachpaoli Police Station on the basis of complaint given by ACB on Friday. Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (SP) ACB Rashmi Nandedkar, Addl SP Rajesh Duddhalwar, DySP Milind Totre, the arrest was made by Police Inspectors Gorakh Kumbhar, Yogeshwar Pardhi, Sachin Halmare, Sunil Hukre, Kunal Kadav and Dinesh Dharmik.
