Literary extravaganza Victorian Rhapsody organised at BSSS

The English Department and the BSSS Literary Society IGNIS organised two-day interdepartmental, literary extravaganza, Victorian Rhapsody. The programme organise every year to give a platform to the students for bringing out their creativity as artists, writers and performers. Keeping the theme of the event in mind, the atmosphere of the Victorian Era was adapted into the venue. The first day of the event was conducted to pay tribute to the well-known satirical and witty writer, Oscar Wilde and thus was named ‘Wit & Wilde’. The day of the event was filled with everything Oscar Wilde.
 
The ‘Wit & Wilde’ commenced in the presence of the college Principal Dr Fr John PJ, the Vice Principal Dr Sr Lissy Jose and Certificate Course Conductor Sr Morris. The event also saw the support and attendance of faculty members from various departments. Beginning the event with a performance of Oscar Wilde’s satirical comedy– Importance of Being Earnest followed by a musical performance honouring Oscar Wilde’s appreciation of art in every form, especially music. Following the musical performance was a dramatic set of an interview with few deceased writers coming back to life among the audience. The performance included characters like Salman Rushdie, Jane Austin, Mirza Ghalib and of course Oscar Wilde.
 
The actors put forth an accurate portrayal of their character with a great humorous tone to it which was well received by the audience. The day concluded with the screening of the movie ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’, an adaptation of the play of the same name. On the second day students gave voice to their thoughts and opinions while participating in the poetry slam and debate competition.
 
Students from the House of Bards (English Literature), House of Chamberlain (students of Commerce), House of Merchants (students of management studies), House of Lovelace (students of computer science), House of Alchemists (students of Science) and House of Lords (Humanities) and House of Knights (physical education) matched their wits to participate in the treasure hunt. Nidhi Agarwal of Stories n Beyond, Amartya Agarwal and Sheena Thomas, HOD department of education presided over as judges for the Debate and Poetry slam competition. Students from the Humanities department walked away with the hamper winning, the treasure hunt. Mable Thomas and Utkarsh Dwivedi from management and humanities department respectively won the debate. The poetry slam competition was won by Simran Singh from the department of English.
