RAIPUR,

Taking the death of young bodybuilder due to alleged use of steroid as an eye opener, the Raipur Police is enhancing its investigation in the case. Azad Chowk Police has added Section 304 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), which amounts to the charge of punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and probing the matter further. Police sources averred that people linked to bodybuilder Sandeep Singh Thakur and accused bodybuilder Sumit Roy Choudhary, who administered and provided drugs the deceased, are under police scanner. Supplement shops and dealer providing supplements across the state are also under police radar. Moreover, police investigators are also collecting details about such bodybuilders and people, who are allegedly providing and suggesting steroids to youths for achieving sculpted physique. It may be recalled that bodybuilder Sandeep Singh Thakur passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Raipur.

In this connection, the accused identified as Sumit Roy Choudhary, who claimed several medals in state and national-level competition, was arrested by Azad Chowk Police on charges of administering fatal drugs, particularly muscle growing steroids, to Sandeep Singh Thakur. An offence in this connection was registered under Sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The death of young bodybuilder due to alleged use of steroid not only exposed the dark side of glamorous bodybuilding game but also highlighted the lackadaisical approach of administration here. Hence, the there is an urgent need to keep close watch on the activities of supplements’ shops mushrooming across State. However, concerned authorities in Chhattisgarh seems to be least bother about selling the bodybuilding supplements, be it substandard product or contaminated with some sort of oral drugs.
