BU, a few Govt colleges to tap solar power

Promoting usage of Green energy dozens of Government colleges in city, including Barkatullah University, is all set to install rooftop solar panels. This will make institutes self-sufficient in power generation.
 
 
 
Apart from Barkatullah University, college that agreed to set up rooftop solar panels are Benajeer College, Maharani Laxmibai Girls College (MLB), Motilal Vigyan Mahavidyalaya (MVM), Sarojini Naidu Girls College (Nutan), Hamidia and State Law College.
 
Principals of these colleges have given their consent to Urja Vikas Nigam Limited for final set up of solar panels on their roof.
 
Department of Higher Education has also proposed for setting up of solar panels on Government college building about five years back. The department had asked all colleges across State having its own building to go for the solar power so that they become self sufficient in generation.
 
Principals of colleges said that after adopting online process for fee submission, admission, result, e-library, etc usage of electricity has been increased. Concerned over the demand of power, officials agreed to adopt Green energy that would help them to become self-sufficient.
 
Dr Manjula Sharma, Principal of Nutan College, said “Solar panels will be helpful to reduce
the electricity bills by 60 per cent. It would also promote use of Green energy.” Officials of DHE said that solar panel will be reducing the electricity bill of institutes. They have targeted to set up solar panels in about six colleges within month. It would cost about 60 to 70 lakhs for setting up solar equipment in each college. A solar panel with capacity of 60 kilowatt will be set up at Nutan College that would produce 240 unit of electricity. The college would save about Rs 60,000 per month. Currently, Nutan College pay about Rs one lakh per month for electricity bills. At the time of online admission, the college released electricity bill of Rs 1.5 lakh.
