The applications now available for the persons with disabilities have proved to be a great help in their rehabilitation. With the use of these Apps, a large number of persons with disabilities have started venturing into different fields with confidence. Many of these apps are not known to the disabled or their family members. Athough not everybody will be able to afford them easily, there are many organisations which can help in procuring them for the benefit of the persons with diasbilities.
 
Some of these apps available now are
 
Text to speech and speech to text apps are available on mobile Dotbook-- Braille and normal combined laptop (designed and patented by IIT Delhi). n For Hearing impaired -- Cochlear Implant which converts sound waves into electronic input.
 
Talking hands -- Allows sign language to be converted to text.
For Orthopardic and muscle disability -- Motorised wheelchair
Arise -- Stand up wheel chair (Designed by IIT Madras)
Artificial limbs. n Label maker -- prints Braille labels on a strip.
Tactile image printer converts plain image as tactile image on a thermal paper.
For Low vision reader -- scans and enlarges the image, and can select color modification.
Scan edit and voice output -- scans and gives voice output, allows editing through keyboard.
Softwares and Apps:
JAWS (Job Acess With Sound)/NVDA (Non Visual Digital Access ) allow talk back with normal computer. n Swalekhan app -- trains the user to use keyboard effectively and write in Marathi ( Niwant Pune )
BrailleMe -- Allows to access and type word document in Braille through a re-writable Braille pad
Braille and normal keyboard -- allows normal typing with Braille labelled key board ( Niwant Pune)
Divya Nayan -- Scans and converts printed matter as audio output , battery operated, and cab work outdors (CSIRO, Chandigadh). Dr Pratima Shastri, Founder of Ashadeep, organisation for the disabled and child and women welfare, informed about the most modern applications and equipment available for rehabilitation of the handicapped. Dr Shastri stated that with the use of these applications the disabled can easily compete with the normal persons and enter into the main stream of life and lead live with dignity.
