A massive fire raged inside an industrial unit of Raipur Polymers operational in Urkura area under Khamtarai police station on Tuesday afternoon. However, no casualties have been reported. “A major fire broke into Raipur Polymers this afternoon. After being informed about the fire, police and four fire tenders including two from industrial units, were rushed to the spot for undertaking rescue exercise. It takes about four hours to control the flames flaring high on the air,” said Khamtarai Station House Officer (SHO) Ramakant Sahu.

The industrial units deals in manufacturing of plastic gunnybags, added the SHO. Explosion in two cylinders, raw material and some sort of chemical stored inside the industrial unit added to the inferno, said SHO Sahu, adding that dense smoke emanating out from the industrial unit impacted the rescue exercise. Station House Officer Ramakant Sahu further informed that no one was reported to be hurt in the fire that broke out inside Raipur Polymers, which is not functioning for sometimes. Exact cause and estimated loss due to the fire were yet to be ascertained. As per the information collected for management of the industrial unit, short-circuit could be a reason for breaking out of the inferno.
