Now onwards, people of Vidarbha will not have to run from pillar to post for issue of new Aadhaar card or effecting change in entries thereof or biometric update. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has started its own Aadhaar Seva Kendra in the city. The centre located in the premises housing Passport Office in Mankapur area, is the first such UIDAI-owned centre in Maharashtra.
Ravindra Thakre, District Collector, inaugurated it on Friday. Sumanesh Joshi, Additional Director General of UIDAI, Mumbai; Sumit Khatri, Regional Head; Capt Anil Marathe, Manager; Nikhil Mahajan, Manager; Chaturthhi Mogare, Project Manager; Zoaib Wali and others were present.
Addressing a press conference later in the evening, Thakre said that eight registration units were operational at the newly inaugurated centre. The number will go up to 16 units. At present, total 18 staffers are working at the centre, he added.
Sumanesh Joshi told mediapersons that Aadhaar Seva Kendra at Nagpur was the first UIDAI-owned centre in Maharashtra and similar centres would be started in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Nashik, and Aurangabad gradually. There are several advantages of the centre. The centre will be operational all through the week between 9.30 am and 6.30 pm. It will cater to requirements for registration for new Aadhaar card, change of name or mobile number or email id or biometric details or pincode etc. 500 registrations can be done in a day at the centre, he added.
Replying to a question, Joshi said that people can fix appointment online by visiting and registering on the websites http://appointments.uidai.gov.in/ and/or https://ask1.uidai.gov.in where a toke number will be generated. The applicants should carry the token number while visiting the centre on appointed date and time. Or, people can fix the appointment by visiting the centre too. People may also reschedule their appointment.
Joshi told reporters that one might order reprint of Aadhaar card also by visiting the website http://appointments.uidai.gov.in/ and visiting the section ‘Order Aadhaar Reprint’. Speed post charges of Rs 50/- will have to be paid by the applicant, he added. For complaints about fingerprint mismatch in case of senior citizens, redressal could be done on case-to-case basis. “Citizens may make use of Helpline number 1947, or register their grievances at Collectorate,” he added.
As far as Nagpur district is concerned, 99.78 per cent of the population has enrolled for Aadhaar card. Of an estimated population of 49,22,081 in the year 2015, as many as 49,10,782 have enrolled for Aadhaar, said Thakre.
