MEMU has in-built advantages as it can accelerate faster after stopping at railway station in comparison to conventional ICF rake which are slow moving

Even as Central Railway introduced Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit (MEMU) on Nagpur-Amravati route, another MEMU train would shortly run on Nagpur-Bhusawal route. Two rakes of 16 coaches each were received at Nagpur Division and one of it was diverted to Bhusawal Division for replacing the conventional rake that is currently in operation.

The MEMU rake started operation on Nagpur-Amravati route from Monday onwards. For travellers it was a pleasant surprise as the brand new coaches provided much needed comfort for the three hours travel. Maximum rush on the passenger is between Nagpur to Wardha and it runs during morning hours. The conventional rake takes nearly six to seven hours to cross the 150 km distance between Nagpur and Amravati. With MEMU it is expected to ensure faster travel between the two cities of Vidarbha, headquarters of two revenue division. Similarly, the MEMU rake on Bhusawal-Nagpur route too is likely to be commissioned within a month or so.

Nagpur Division had conducted the oscillation trails of two MEMU rakes in ghat section with help of team of Railway Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO). Senior officials of division said in all three rakes of ICF make were in operation on Nagpur-Amravati and Nagpur-Bhusawal via-Akola route of Central Railway. Of them two rakes are replaced and when the third one also is of MEMU then actual benefits in relation of cutting down travel time could be estimated. MEMU has in built advantages as it can accelerate faster after stopping at railway station in comparison to conventional ICF rake which are slow moving. Such type of rakes are in operation in Mumbai suburban services also called local. These train can run upto maximum 105/km ph so it would help in faster reaching the destination.
