MHT-CET 2020 to be held sans MB group

This year Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) will have one major change. Students will not have choice of opting Biology and Mathematics both. They have to choose either Mathematics group or Biology group. This change will take place in the CET to be held between April 13 to 23, 2020. Till the MHT-CET 2019 there were three groups MM (Mathematics group), BB (Biology group) and MB (Mathematics-Biology). This system started way back when combined CET was conducted for the admissions to engineering and health sciences courses.
Some students could not be able to decide whether to go for engineering or opt health sciences. Such students had choice of opting MB, which is for both-- engineering and health sciences. After the introduction of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for the admissions to health sciences courses, MHTCET remained for the admissions to engineering alone. Three years ago MHT-CET was made compulsory for the admissions to Agriculture, Pharmacy, Fisheries, Dairy Technology courses. For engineering students are supposed to take MM group where the test of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics is conducted. For other courses BB group is to be opted where Biology replaces Mathematics.
Those want to go for both had a choice of MB group. This year Government has not put this option for the students. Now students either have opt MM or BB. One expert expressed unhappiness over this development. He pointed out, “Last year students who opted PCMB scored 85 marks out of 200 with percentile 98.8. Those who opted PCM scored 150 marks with percentile 96. It means those opted PCMB got admissions first and PCM left behind. I am surprised over this change. Why the rule was changed. One complete batch will have to suffer losses.”
Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell under Directorate of Technical Education (DTE Maharashtra) released the tentative dates and schedule of 06 MAH CETs to be conducted in 2020, including MHT CET 2020 and MAH MCA CET 2020, on its website mahacet.org. As per the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell Tentative Schedule, the first entrance test will be MAH-MBA/MMS CET on March 14 and 15, 2020 followed by MAH MCA CET on March 28, 2020. MAH CET 2020, also known as MHT CET 2020 conducted for Bachelor in Engineering or Technology/Bachelor in Pharmacy, will be held between April 13 to 23, 2020 in On-line Mode.
