 Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu was given rousing welcome at Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur by Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Secretary R P Mandal and other senior administrative officials on Thursday.

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu will be inaugurating the 102nd Annual Conference of the Indian Economic Association at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Auditorium, Science College Ground in the capital on Friday. Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, President of International Economic Association Professor Kaushik Basu and Professor Mahendra Dev, President of International Economic Association, Dr G Viswanathan and Vice Chancellor of Pandit Ravi Shankar University Kesari Lal Verma will grace the occasion.
 
The Indian Economic Association is the oldest, largest and most prestigious organisation of professional economists and policy makers in India. It was established in 1917 by Professors C J Hamilton, Percy Anstey and Prof (Dr) Gilbert Slater of Calcutta, Bombay and Madras Universities. It is now celebrating its Centenary Third Conference in 2019. The 102nd Annual Conference of the Indian Economic Association is to be hosted by Pt Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, from December 27 to 29. The central theme for the conference is Economic Growth, Fiscal Federalism, Livelihoods and Environment. During the 102nd Annual Conference of the Indian Economic Association being hosted in the capital by Pt Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur, a special session will be dedicated to the discussion on “The Economy of Chhattisgarh”.
 
During the Annual Conference focus will be laid upon burning issues like Trends and Prospects of Faster and Sustainable Economic Growth, Agricultural Economy, Industrial Economy, Poverty and Unemployment in Chhattisgarh and Current Development and Welfare Programmes. Under Trends and Prospects of Faster and Sustainable Economic Growth, deliberations would revolve around causes of continuation of backwardness of economy and prospects of growth, achievements and shortfalls of UNDP MDGs, UNDP Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)- Challenges and prospects and impact of Left Wing Extremism on development of the tribal areas of South Chhattisgarh.
 
Under Agricultural Economy, deliberations will revolve around causes of low productivity of crops and prospects of higher productivity, causes of chronic indebtedness of farmers and prospects of debt free farmers, impact of farmers relief schemes on state finances, Narva (Small water channel), Garva (cattle), Ghurva (Manure) and Bari (Kitchen garden) model of agriculture and farmers development of present government. Under Industrial Economy, deliberations will be held on causes of industrial backwardness and prospects for faster industrialization, causes of regional disparity and prospects for balanced regional development, prospects of FDI in IT and other high-tech industries and on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Chhatttishgarh.
 
Under the topic Poverty and Unemployment in Chhattisgarh, deliberations will be held on causes of continuation of high magnitude of poverty in Chhattisgarh, multi-dimensional poverty in Chhattisgarh, prospects of poverty free Chhattisgarh and implementation of Rural Livelihood mission and Urban Livelihood mission programmes. Under the topic of Current Development and Welfare Programmes, issues to be raised are implementation of Skill India Programme and prospects of Quality employment in Chhattisgarh, Entrepreneurship Development programmes and employment generations, level of Financial Inclusion under PMJDY and Aspirational Districts programme in Chhattisgarh.
