CPCC deligation called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey and demanded compensation to kin of each victim and Governemnt job to one member of victims’ family
A delegation of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC), led by State President Mohan Markam, called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday and handed over a memorandum to the Governor on Sarkeguda encounter issue. Talking to mediapersons outside Raj Bhavan, after meeting the Governor, State Congress President Markam alleged the 17 innocent tribal people were killed in an encounter at Sarkeguda in Bijapur district on June 28 and 29, 2012.
The Judicial Inquiry Commission headed by Justice Vijay Kumar Agarwal submitted its report to the State government and the report indicates that the people killed in the gunfight were not Maoists. The tribal people, who were celebrating traditional festival at Sarkeguda village, were killed in the fake encounter. The Congress delegation demanded the Governor to take action against the guilty people, who are responsible for the fake encounter, Markam said.
The Congress has demanded that Rs 20 lakh compensation each to the kin of the victim of the Sarkeguda encounter. Besides it, one member of the victim families should be given Government job, he added. Industry Minister Kawasi Lakhma, who was the convener of the CPCC’s Inquiry Committee for Sarkeguda encounter, said that the Congress party raised the alleged fake encounter, in which tribal people killed were not Maoists. Several innocent tribal people were killed in fake encounters during the regime of previous state government, Lakhma added. The delegation included Industry Minister Kawasi Lakhma, Women and Child Development Minister Anila Bhediya, Dantewada MLA Devati Karma, Bastar MLA Lakheshwar Baghel, Narayanpur MLA Chandan Kashyap, Chitrakot MLA Rajman Benjam, Antagarh MLA Anup Nag, Santram Netam, Shishupal Sori, Vikram Mandavi, Brihaspati Singh, Laxmi Dhruv and other leaders. The Congress delegation would also meet Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on the issue soon.
