Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) is using Appitrack technology for construction of slab tracks. According to it, the technology has helped it achieve ‘unmatched speed’ of construction and improve work-site safety. According to Maha Metro, Appitrack is being used at its MIHAN Car Depot. “Appitrack is a service-proven, innovative process offering fully mechanised construction of slab tracks,” stated a press release issued here.

It has helped in achieving unmatched speeds of construction, improving work-site safety and cleanliness, reducing disturbances to the surroundings and shortening overall project time. Using the said technology, ballastless track installation is done using ‘Bottom-Up’ methodology that allows automatic insertion of baseplates and dowels into fresh concrete layer. Once the slab is cured, rails are installed and welded, adjusted and fastened, stated the press release.

Appitrack technology has several advantages over manual track laying. It can lay up to maximum of 200 meters of track per day in tunnels, on viaduct or at ground level. Due to specific track-laying methodology, no rear works, cleaning, final adjustment is required. When casting is done, track is 75 per cent ready. Reduced footprint is guaranteed, as well as a high degree of operational reliability is ensured. Simplifying and automating tasks keeps the construction site clean and improves health and safety conditions there. In manual track laying, rail is mandatory prior to start of construction works. Besides, it requires more manpower, and only 50-60 meters of track per day can be laid. There is less tolerance due to human error, and high risk due to involvement of more manpower.
