NDS cracks whip on NMC of
NDS personnel recovering fine of a violator in Sitabuldi area.

Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) again cracked whip at Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Civil Lines office where they fined seven persons for violating the cleanliness of the surroundings. Apart from the seven, the NDS caught 37 persons in different parts of city as part of its drive to rein in citizens having scant regard for cleanliness. The other day NDS squad along with officials of Dharampeth, Dhantoli and Mangalwari Zones penalised 29 persons. At Mor Bhawan, NDS personnel channelised citizens who were noticed throwing litter in the public place. Mor Bhawan is a busy place throughout the day and most of time people do not think before spitting or throwing in open left over after eating food items. Similarly, at Jhansi Rani Square too spitting was most common offence among passers-by and in all at two places in Sitabuldi 16 persons were fined and penalty of Rs. 3,200 was realized.
One more common type of defacement was throwing of plastic chit by kharra lovers. In such cases, 13 persons were fined Rs. 1300 by the NDS team on Saturday. Again on Sunday at Mor Bhawan the NDS caught 17 persons and realised fine of Rs. 2,100 from them for spitting and throwing garbage.

In Mangalwari Zone, the action was taken near Gandhi Statue square where seven persons were caught while urinating in open. One other citizen was fined for dumping waste in open and another lone individual for littering. Total 13 persons were fine and Rs. 2700 was realised from them. At Civil Lines three persons were noticed spitting in the area while four others were caught while dumping waste material. Form them NDS recovered fine of Rs. 1,000. A squad comprising four persons was deployed at prominent squares in the three zones. NDS also put flower sellers on warning asking them to desist from using plastic wrappings for bouquets. They were informed that single use plastic is now banned and they too must avoid or else in future hefty fines would be imposed on them.

Citizens do not think twice before littering public places with used material, plastic chits, empty plastic wrappings etc. which becomes eye sore. Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has urged people to help the machinery in maintaining cleanliness at public places. NDS is led by Virsen Tambe and is supervised by Dr Pradeep Dasarwar, Nodal Officer, Swachh Bharat Mission. In all during 14 actions, 37 persons were fined and Rs. 5800 was recovered from them. Of late, NDS apart from concentrating on building material dumped by road side is also trying to rein in bad habits among citizens, like spitting, throwing litter on road etc.
