I f you are going to set achievable goals as well as help others learn how to set goals, you must first understand the elements of a goal. Goals must be personal. They must be yours and yours alone. As parents, we can help our children discover their talents and abilities. Doing this will help them to have a better understanding of what they can do in life before they set their goals. but parents can’t write goals for their children or anyone because goals are one’s own creation. Don Fear Heiley writes in Home Bible Study Guide: “We can’t fulfil our potential by living through others, watching what others do while denying our own ambitions, desires and goals. Setting goals for personal gain is not materialistic and selfish. It is using the talents and abilities that God has given us in order that we may became all that he created us to be. It is an expression of selfhood and unless we focus on that selfhood, we are in effect betraying the purpose God had when he create us. God had a plan for each one of us, a plan that includes personal growth and development. Experts and professional speakers spoke of goal-setting as an Art. They said that goals should be written and should not be a hazy idea in the mind. In a test conducted, they discovered that only three percent wrote down their goals, seven percent had some hazy ideas and the rest 90 per cent had no goals at all. HENRY David Thoreau once said that people lead their lives of quiet desperation and something is missing in their lives but they don’t know what it is! They search unhappily trying to fill that void.

But, they never find it because they don’t know what they are looking for. When you know what you are looking for in life, you create ideas and circumstances to fulfil them. When we try to set goals, a bit of leadership is created and leadership is getting along with others i.e. juniors, seniors, colleagues and family members. Accept everyone as he is and establish harmony with people around us. Keep problems to ourselves because grumbling people never became popular. A leader must be able to inspire confidence in followers and motivate followers to achieve goals. Arnold Toynbee considered a leader as a person of ethical and intellectual character who could move people without coercion. In fact, followers accept a person as a leader when he is able to accomplish desired results. Once an expert explained what is Real. Real is not how you are made. It is a thing that happens to you.

When a child loves you for a long long time not just to play with but really loves you, then you become Real. It does not happen all at once as it takes a long time. That is why it does not happen to people who break easily or have sharp edges or have to be carefully dealt with. Generally, by the time you are real things don’t matter at all because once you are real, you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand you! Our mission in life is not to change the World. Our mission is to change ourselves for which there are no outside solutions but only inside solutions. Remember, that when you change, you are not alone. When you get sick and tired, you will certainly change. The world is a mirror. What you feel inside you manifest outside. We can’t fix life by working on the onside. As you change your thinking, your life will also change. Change is a primary factor which shapes our destiny! Don’t affirm to yourself that the world is not Ok. Look for beauty around. We all see people not as they are but as we are. When you meet anyone, remember that it is a holy encounter. As you see him, you will see yourself. As you treat him, you will treat yourself. In him, you will find or lose yourself. We don’t make our life meaningful with one great idea. We have to see meaning in lots of little deeds. You pay attention to the present and you find your rewards.

Treat others as you want to be treated. See things from the other man’s point of view. Remember, that those who bring sunshine into the lives of others have it in themselves too. When you are good to others, you are best to yourself. Many people say “This much is enough and no further”. Field Marshal Rommel said: “Those who have not served cannot command others. Our mission in life is not to get ahead of others but ahead of ourselves. Success is achieved by ordinary people with extra-ordinary determination. It is not the situation but the way we react to it that is important.”
