NANDANVAN Police on Saturday arrested drug-peddler Madhu Surendrakumar Agrawal (Singhal), who and his accomplices had attacked police informer Ashish Suresh Gaiki, has been arrested from a lodge in Saoner. Agrawal (42), a resident of 147, Netaji Nagar, behind Gomti Hotel, Old Pardi, had also looted Rs 16,000 cash and a gold chain worth Rs 15,000 from Gaiki (31) in Nandanvan. A resident of Jambodeep Nagar, near Ayodhya Nagar, MBA student Gaiki, who was a police informer, had information that cricket bookie Agrawal was also drug-peddler and deals in Mephedrone (MD) powder. After confirming the inputs, Gaiki shared the information with Senior Police Inspector Raju Bahadure who is attached to Anti-Narcotic Cell (North Division) of the Crime Branch. Inspector Bahadure had asked Police Constable Rahul Gumgaonkar and Gaiki to meet Agrawal by posing as customers. Accordingly, they approached Agrawal and asked for MD powder. Agrawal told them he was having not more than seven gramme of MD powder.
The two decoy customers told Agrawal that they wanted 100 gramme MD powder for which were willing to pay immediately. Agrawal asked them to wait for two-three days as his man was coming from Mumbai with MD powder. He then asked Gaiki and Gumgaonkar to bring Rs two lakh cash and meet him after two days at Hotel Radisson Blu where his man would be staying. On March 11, Gaiki and Gumgaonkar contacted Agrawal and the latter asked them to meet him. When they went to meet Agrawal, they had Rs 1.60 lakh with them. Agrawal asked them to bring remaining Rs 40,000 cash to take 100 gramme MD powder. Gumgaonkar asked Gaiki to wait with Agrawal till he bring Rs 40,000. In the meantime, Agrawal received a call on his cellphone and the caller told him that he was being trapped by the police. Sensing trouble, Agrawal asked Gaiki to accompany him to a complex near Kohinoor Lawns to bring the key of his office. Agrawal and his men attacked Gaiki with sticks and knives. Agrawal took out his pistol and hit its butt on Gaiki's head injuring him seriously. They then took away Rs 16,000 cash and a gold chain worth Rs 15000 from him.
Nandanvan Police got information that Agrawal was hiding atSumit Lodge, near Saoner Bus Stand. A team comprising PSI Datta Pendkar, ASI Ramesh Chikhle, constabulary staff Sachin Empreddiwar, Omkar Barabhai, Rajendra Shirbhate, Dilip Awgan, Bhimrao Thombre, Roshan Nimbarte, Abhay Marode, Deepak Tarhekar, and Mithun laid a trap at the lodged and nabbed Agrawal. Cops seized three cellphones and swif Dzire car (MH-49/B-9429) worth Rs 4.21 lakh from him. The arrests were made under the supervision of DCP (Zone IV) Raj Tilak Roushan, ACP Gharge, Senior PI Vinayak Chauhan and PI Arvind Bhole.
