Citizens witnesses defence equipment at expo in OFAj

People of Nagpur got a rare chance to experience the defence equipment that are manufactured by Ordnance Factory Ambajhari (OFAJ) for the Indian Armed Forces on Sunday at their Community Hall premises. OFAJ celebrated the Ordnance Factory Day and the exhibition was held to share their work with people. Vandana Maurya, President, Women Welfare Association inaugurated the exhibition. OFAJ is manufacturing various defence products like shells, cartridges, fuses, bridges, parachute platforms, missiles, die casting items and rockets. All such products were on display during the exhibition for general visitors. OFAJ is manufacturing the state-of-the-art Pinaka missile for Indian Army from last few years and this missile was also in display that attracted large number of visitors at the exhibition. Shells of different size and riffles of Armed Forces also attracted huge crowed.

OFAJ also displayed their fire fighting equipment. Ordnance Factory Day is celebrated across the country in various Ordnance Factories on March 18 every year. The country’s first Ordnance Factory, that is Gun and Shell Factory, Cossipore was established on this day in 1801. Since then, the celebration of Ordnance Factory Day began. Ordnance Factory Ambajhari was established on March 9 in 1966. It has completed 53 years of establishment. It is well known that, the main purpose of Ordnance Factories is to provide the most modern quality weapons, equipment and logistics from time to time to Indian Armed Forces. A Prabhat Pheri was taken out on Sunday at 6 am from Dr Ambedkar Chowk to the Main Gate of the Factory, in which a large number of factory employees, officers and their families took part. It was inaugurated by C L Maurya, General Manager, OFAJ. Thereafter, General Manager hoisted the Ordnance Factory Flag in front of the Industrial Canteen and administered the oath of commitment towards the organisation. General Manager offered his best wishes to all employees and their family members.
 
He said, “We are proud to be related to Ordnance Factory which has vital contribution towards defence of our country.” He praised all officers, staff and employees who contributed towards better performance of factory. He also mentioned that Ordnance Factory Board, Kolkata has conferred the Best Factory Award for the year 2017-2018 to OFAJ.
 
It is also a matter of pride that, three Officer have received Ayudh Awards from OFB, Kolkata. A N Srivastava, Additional General Manager was conferred with Ayudh Bhushan, Narendra Singh, Deputy General Manager was conferred with Ayudh Vir and Archana Gupta with Ayudh Devi award. N K Patmase, Head of Section/Labour Office read out the message sent by Saurabh Kumar, Chairman and Director General (DGOF), Ordnance Factory Board. Nitin Kamade, Chargeman was awarded the Best Employee of the factory award. Ajay Kumar Swain, Fitter/SSK was awarded Best Worker for the month of October, 2018 and Rahul Sidam was awarded Best Worker for the month of November, 2018. Many employees were awarded cash prizes for special achievement in sports. The programme was compered by Ravindra Lanjeshwar and Sachin Chandorkar, Head of Section/Central Office proposed a vote of thanks.
