Demanding registration of criminal cases against the members of CGBSE flying squad, which had allegedly strip-searched the students (particularly girls) on March 1, 2019 at Pandrapath Higher Secondary School in Jashpur district, Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) said if the State Government fails to take action, the party will approach Chhattisgarh High Court for justice. The JCC (J) further alleged that one of the students, a tribal girl, who was also allegedly subjected to strip-search, had later committed suicide due to embarrassment due to such illegitimate action by the members of CGBSE flying-squad. The JCC (J) has also demanded extension of economic assistance to the tune of Rs 50 lakh for the family of the said tribal girl along with a government job for one family member.

It is worth mentioning here that Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education, Raipur is conducting Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination, 2018-19 (Class X - Board) in the state. Accordingly, Class X students were appearing in the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination being conducted by Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education, Raipur at Pandrapath Higher Secondary School in Jashpur district on March 1, 2019. While the examination was underway, CGBSE flying squad reached the school on March 1 and commenced checking whether the students were using unfair means while writing their examination. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, senior Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J) leader Richa Jogi along with M S Paikra (Retd IAS), who’re part of the JCC (J) investigation committee constituted by JCC (J) Founder President Ajit Jogi, alleged that through their investigation they had come to a conclusion that the members of CGBSE flying squad had allegedly singled out three girls and one boy, among the students appearing for Class X examination, on doubt of using unfair means, and were taken to a different room and were allegedly strip-searched. Embarrassed, as she was strip-searched, on suspicion of carrying unfair means in examination, Kumari Manita, the 16-year-old tribal girl, hailing from village Rauni in Jashpur district, committed suicide, said Richa Jogi and M S Paikra while addressing media persons. They further stated that since the victim belonged to Pahari Korwa community, a particularly vulnerable tribal group (PVTG) community, hence the state government should extend economic assistance of Rs 50 lakh to next of her kin and provide government job to one member of her family.

The Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J) leaders also demanded that criminal offences should be registered against CGBSE flying squad members involved in the incident apart from initiating disciplinary action against them. During their visit to the school and the village where the victim had resided as well as after talking to the school students and their family members, it is aptly clear that these students including the victim were subjected to strip-search. They said due to administrative pressure, the school administration and village sarpanch were tight-lipped into the incident. Quoting the victim’s brother, the JCC (J) leaders stated that the victim was very depressed. Her brother had stated that she had told him that she couldn’t attempt her examination properly due to a search operation that took place in the school and that she was saddened by the incident. On the next day also she was depressed due to the incident and took the extreme step.
