The administration is all set to receive nomination papers for general elections to Lok Sabha, from Monday. The interested candidates may submit their nomination papers till 3 pm on March 25. Both the main rival candidates -- Nitin Gadkari of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Nana Patole of Congress -- are expected to submit their nominations to the administration on March 25. Ashwin Mudgal, District Collector and District Election Officer, visited the office and interacted with the officials concerned on Sunday, to take stock of the preparations for the nominations process. Shrikant Phadke, Additional Collector; Rajlaxmi Shah, Deputy District Election Officer, and other officers also accompanied him during the visit.
 
The candidates may submit their nomination papers to the administration between 11 am and 3 pm on any working day from March 18 (Monday) to March 25 (Monday). The candidates will have to submit their nominations in Form-2A. In case of a recognised political party, the candidate’s nomination should be backed by one proposer who is a registered voter in the Lok Sabha constituency concerned. In case of candidate of non-recognised party or Independent candidate, there should be at least 10 proposers, who are registered voters in the constituency concerned. The nomination paper should have in attachment duly filled in Form 26 (Part A, Part B) and affidavit. Each page of the affidavit should be signed by the deponent and the affidavit should bear on each page the stamp of the Notary or Oath Commissioner or Magistrate before whom the affidavit is sworn. All the columns in the affidavit format have to be filled in either with details, or ‘Nil, ‘Not Applicable’, or ‘Not Known’.
 
It is mandatory for candidate to furnish details regarding his/her e-mail id, contact numbers, social media account(s). The candidates of national or State-level and recognised parties are required to submit Form A and Form B of respective party along with the nomination paper by 3 pm on March 25. If the constituency is reserved, caste certificate issued by competent authority has to be submitted along with the nomination paper. The General category candidates are required to deposit an amount of Rs 25,000/- and those belonging to Scheduled Caste/Tribe have to submit Rs 12,500/- as deposit. The amount of deposit may be paid in cash or by challan at Reserve Bank of India or at Government Treasury.
 
According to the administration, the deposit ‘will not’ be accepted by cheque. A candidate can submit maximum four nomination papers. Besides, a candidate cannot contest from more than two Lok Sabha constituencies. At the time of submission of the nomination papers to the administration, maximum five persons including the candidate can remain present in the cabin of Returning Officer concerned. The candidates and their supporters can bring maximum three vehicles in the premises of the office of Returning Officer concerned. Further, Mudgal said, a candidate has to open a bank account in his/her name only for the purpose of election expenditure, and the information regarding the said account should be furnished in writing along with the nomination paper.
